Identity crisis of an information professional

This might be just how I feel, but the identity issue has been with me since 2011. During a social event in Shanghai of Umich (partly to welcome new students), I was questioned by a non-information science person that “aren’t all sciences information science”? Later, I had multiple rounds similar experiences when I worked with CS people, when I took courses of philosophy and sociology.

I am sure a lot discussions had happened to identify the foundations/origins of information science, but I would like to have a discussion that originates more from a first-person, or an individual researcher perspective; how a single researcher navigates through multiple fields overcoming/dealing with the identity issue.

I’d read that paper for sure.
