A thread for announcements about the site that don’t merit their own topic. Scroll down to see what’s new, since the infrequent updates to the thread will be posts.
First set of announcements about site settings follows.
- New Domain: paperwishlist.org. We’re super excited about this. This is mainly an FYI for anyone who signed up during the workshop and is reading this in an email digest. I’m not 100% sure, but believe the old temporary domain will start automatically redirecting within the next week or two anyways.
- I’ve added a
Pronounsfield to user accounts. This will enable all users to specify which pronouns they would like to be addressed with. This information will be displayed in a user’s public profile, and ‘card’, which you can see now by hovering over/touching my avatar, or visiting my public profile. - There is also a University field if you want to indicate your university affiliation.
- I’ve enabled Unicode for usernames and group names. This makes the use of emojis and non-ACSII characters usable for these items.
These have always been supported in post content and display names. - I’ve reduced the password strength requirements for regular users to something a little more reasonable. Proportional security is important, this site shouldn’t contain sensitive data, and so you’re welcome to use a low(er) strength password if that makes the site more convenient for you. We still recommend you use a password manager and high strength passwords, though.
